Day 3- Arles and Saint Remy

Van Gogh, more Van Gogh and even more Van Gogh was the theme of day 3.
In the morning we woke up docked in Arles.
the light was very cool in the morning

throughout the city they had plaques of Van Gogh's paintings by where they were based on, this was the first of many

I love doors, which will be clear by the end of the post

we visited the old Roman arena

which they use today for bull fights

 more Roman ruins

 and more doors and windows

 the main plaza

the old hospital at Arles where Van Gogh stayed after the ear incident before going to the asylum

the cafe from one of Van Gogh's most famous paintings
the view with the painting in the forefront

we then worked our way back to the ship for some lunch

then after lunch hopped on a bus and headed to Saint Remy
with some amazing views along the way

the grounds of the Saint-Paul asylum are the inspiration for so many of his works, here are the olive trees he often painted

 and the irises

we then visited the asylum itself where patients still stay today

and were able to visit his room

a view of the back and all of the irises

we then ventured into the town of Saint Remy which was one of my favorite spots of the entire trip, a very quaint little town

 the birth house of Nostradamus

and some more doors and windows

some beautiful trees on the drive back to the ship
