My friend Clare ran her first marathon in Fort Collins this past Sunday. Her school is close to my house, so we've been able to fit in some of her weekly runs during lunch or in the morning so it has been fun to be part of the marathon prep!
Clare got up at 3:45 to catch the bus for the race at 4:30...quite an early morning! They sure got one AMAZING day for the race though, the weather was gorgeous!

The first 15+ miles of the marathon were unviewable by spectators so we first waited at mile 17 for Clare...and practiced our cheering.
And here she is...first time we saw her...dropping off a layer and heading for the brutal long hill!
more cheering!
mile 21
hazard of marathon cheering...dog slobber/snot all across my leg from this huge dog that the owners felt no need to hold back as we all backed away to avoid snot all over us

mile 25...1.2 to go (which means we have to BOOK it to the finish!)
Clare did a little dance as she came into the finish area
And officially crossing the line...the guy announcing names says "Clarissa Owen of Denver and she is STILL smiling!"
We're so proud of you Clare!!
